There was a time when quiet evenings would be spent reading poems out loud. Philip Larkin’s book is a great place to rediscover this lost art. His poems deliver enduring and profound insights in a language that is both direct and beautiful in its simplicity. I especially recommend the poem “Church Going”, found on page 97.
